The Kasiisi Project is a U.S. based non-profit organization founded by Harvard scientists studying chimpanzees in Uganda which, since 1997, has worked to improve the educational opportunities available to children living near Kibale National Park.
Improving school facilities is the Kasiisi Project’s main focus. As well as building new classrooms, libraries and staff housing, the project sponsors a school lunch program to combat hunger and malnutrition and their negative impact on academic performance. It also builds water facilities and provides adolescent girls with feminine hygiene supplies, special latrines and sexual health instruction to encourage them to stay in school through puberty. For further detail on their work, please visit www.KasiisiProject.com.
Ndali Ventures and the Kasiisi Project have been closely affiliated since November 2009. We share the same goals for both education and conservation in the area and are currently collaborating on a project to rebuild Rwetera Primary School. In the future we hope to profit from their experience to build further partnerships in the realm of health and nutrition, particularly their knowledge of setting up and maintaining a nursery school. They also facilitate a lot of our fundraising by acting as a middle man for any donations, this is incredibly useful to us whilst we are working towards our official registration as a non-profit organisation.
